Questions
What would you like to tell us about your practice?
My clients typically are middle aged adults through seniors. My specific focus involves delivering an unique and proven combination of massage and exercise programs and physically working with people on an ongoing basis to enable them to increase their activity and maintain their independence.
With many years in the medical field, I founded The Ikier Center as a professional, safe, comfortable, and enjoyable place to help individuals improve their quality of life. I received my RN at McGill University and Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Canada and spent two post-graduate years at Montreal Neurological Institute and National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London, England. I have sixteen years experience as a nationally certified massage therapist, exercise instructor, and educator on bone strengthening. I am certified via National Council on Strength and Fitness as a personal trainer. I am affiliated with the Arthritis Foundation and Tufts University's Department of Nutrition. Although I no longer work in the water, I was certified for five years with the Arthritis Foundation to instruct the Arthritis Aquatics program.
I have treated hundreds of people. Many people live with pain or discomfort that they have the ability to fix, lessen, and/or manage. The best approach involves integrative and collaborative care. Medical and other healthcare professionals refer their patients and clients to me as a member of the care team and vice versa.
What expectations should a patient or client have when coming to see you?
Based on each client's history and status, I develop and conduct multidisciplinary and customized programs in both group/class and one-on-one settings to help clients achieve and maintain wellness, gain strength and conditioning, and reduce and manage stress. Programs happen at our center and are home-based/self-care. Additionally, I offer a popular, 3-tiered Osteofitness program modeled after a Tufts University's study for individuals using a cane or walker, beginners, and active adults to improve cardiovascular conditioning, muscle strength, and flexibility. The program addresses joint mobility with progressive resistance training, utilizes massage to promote circulation, provides balance training, teaches fall prevention, and more.
